Description

  Fairfax's story

  DOB: 9/15/2010

Fairfax is kind of a weirdo. On the one hand, she can be a really sweet and extremely talkative girl who gets so excited for pets that she chirps and flops around and drools with delight while purring like an outboard motor. On the other hand, she is extremely jumpy and skittish - sudden movements, walking towards her when she is on the ground or loud noises will send her under the couch. This isn't a factor of her upbringing - she was rescued from a municipal shelter as a tiny kitten and handled a lot when she was young - this is just how she is hard wired.

This explains why she is still in foster care after all this time. She hides when strangers come to the house, so she can't be home shown. If her foster dad is able to grab her and bring her to a weekend adoption event, she sits in abject terror waiting for it to end, usually burrowing and hiding under the blanket in the first ten minutes and not moving until it's time to go home.

It will take a leap of faith for someone to give Fairfax a home. On the plus side, she is very cat friendly, has been raised in a home with dogs and when she is in an affectionate mood she is almost manic in how sweet she is. But, it's not going to be reasonable to expect her to settle down and become a traditional lazy lap cat. She is who she is, and it is very quirky and rather endearing, but a bit unusual. She is, thankfully, extremely well behaved and in good health.

So, with all of those caveats, if you are open to the possibility of giving her a home, please click here to email her foster dad, or visit our website at and fill out our Contact form and ask for her by name.

If you are unable to send an email to the foster parent through the link included above, please contact us and let us know what kitty you're interested in. You may also fill out our adoption questionnaire to speed up the screening process. Be sure to name the cat in the CAT PREFERENCE field at the beginning of the questionnaire. If the above links aren't live, our contact form and questionnaire are available on our website at
