Emmy Lou's story

　　Meet Emmy Lou! Shes a 10 month old, 41 pound foxhound/coonhound. Emmy has soulful hound dog eyes and incredibly soft fur. She is full of silly, playful puppy energy. She loves to run and jump and chase a tennis ball. She even brings it back almost every time! She loves stuffed toys and rope bones and plays gently with them. Emmy Lou would love to have another dog in her new home, but an older, more sedate dog may find her energy tiring. She would likely do well with older kids who can understand she may need some space and time to warm up at first. A secure yard is essential for Emmy Lou since she would be likely to wander off while following her nose. She loves treats and will happily sit for one. She would be easily trainable with a little time and plenty of yummies! Emmy Lou is still learning to live indoors and be part of a family, but she is a quick learner and is about 80% potty trained. She will need a patient family who understands that shes never had the chance to live in a home before she came to her fosters. She responds very well to gentle correction when she is out of line. She is crated while her fosters are at work and has never been destructive or excessively whiny. Emmy Lou has some typical hound characteristics. Shes vocal; when shes happy, when shes frustrated, when she wants attention- she makes some sort of noise (so an apartment isnt ideal for her). Shes suspicious of new people and nervous when she tries something new. She needs an owner who can offer her stability and opportunities to build her confidence. With some patience and plenty of ear scratches, Emmy Lou will become a loyal companion and bring joy to some lucky family for years to come! She is being fostered in Huntsville, AL.
