Outdoor Aluminum Group Chair - Gray - Charles and Ray Eames Herman Miller

  Product Description:

Making a return to the outdoors

  Originally

developed as an outdoor chair for the Eero Saarinen and Alexander

Girard-designed home of industrialist J. Irwin Miller, the Eames Aluminum Group

offers maximum comfort with a minimal profile. Newly updated with a range of

highly durable finish options including Outdoor Weave fabric, the Aluminum

Group Lounge Chair, Side Chair, and Ottoman are once again ready to return to

  their roots—outdoors.

  Take it outside

  To ready

the chairs and ottoman for outdoor use, we developed a new fabric that would be

durable enough to weather the elements and still feel good against the skin.

Outdoor Weave retains the spirit of the original 1958 polyester saran and

builds off the technical capabilities of the Aeron chair’s Pellicle suspension

material. Outdoor Weave combines a sturdy monofilament polypropylene for

strength and elasticity, with four multifilament polypropylene yarns to give it

a great look and feel. It’s also recyclable and contains no harmful PVC. It is

available in several tones selected to complement the choice of powder-coated

  frames.

  Creative

  craft

The assembly of the Eames Aluminum Group Outdoor is as

crucial an element of its design as how it feels to sit in. The Eameses not

only designed each element of the chairs and ottoman, but also the process by

which they are crafted. We do it the same way today as it was done in 1958.

  A

continuous piece of Outdoor Weave is fed between the aluminum ribs which are

then turned inside out and attached to the cross members. Because of this

process, the chair offers considerable comfort and support without any of the

bulk or weight of a traditional upholstered chair. The fabric itself becomes

the seat, with a firm, flexible “sitting pocket” that conforms subtly to the

  body’s shape.

  Durability

  and use

With one-piece, curved aluminum side ribs and a die-cast

aluminum base, the chair is strong, yet lightweight. To make it easy to move,

the upper cross member doubles as a handle.

Available with or without arms, the Eames Aluminum Group

Side Chair Outdoor is suitable for any location where a dining-height chair is

called for and naturally complements our range of Eames Tables Outdoor.

  The

Eames Aluminum Group Lounge Chair Outdoor pairs perfectly with the matching

Eames Aluminum Group Ottoman, or works equally well as a cluster of multiple

chairs around a low table for an informal sitting area.

  Product Condition

Chair is in very good overall condition. If a score had to be given to

these chairs, they would probably get at least a solid 8.0 or 8.5 out of 10.

Fabric still stretched tight over aluminum frame. To this day, it is still

super comfortable/cozy to sit in. These chairs were first started in production

14+ years ago (pre-2010), so it really shows you how well these chairs hold up

over time, even with heavy outdoor use. Chair rotates a full 360 degrees

without issue. No give/pull on the aluminum arm frames, they are still mounted

tightly to the frame body. However, please keep in mind that while these chairs

are in overall great condition, some of the chairs do have small flaws here and

there – such as in some of the top-corners of the chairs (where your shoulders

would rest), those parts in some chairs have some small, roughly quarter-sized

areas, where the fabric has stretched & frayed a bit, over time. It is

pretty minor, and nothing that would affect the long-time durability of the

chair. Can stick out a bit, though, to the eye. Doesn’t affect comfortability

factor in any noticeable way. In these areas (the chairs tend to only have this

“stretching” effect in one area of the chair, and small in area) - the aluminum

frame of the chair is exposed in these areas. This is purely a cosmetic

imperfection from regular use on a 14+ year old chair. Other chairs don't have

this small separation of fabric, but may have a small to medium sized

discoloration / staining on the fabric of the chair. Again, this would be

purely a cosmetic defect. These chairs really stand the test of time, and can

take quite a beating. Other than that, the chairs are in superb condition

still. The only other area worth mentioning is the feet of the chairs – on the

very bottom of each of the 4 “feet”, there may be signs of scuffs/scratching

from somebody (most likely) dragging the chair across the concrete without

picking it up first. These are very lightweight (21 lbs), and can be picked up

by anyone really, so they are easy to continue preserving that part of the

chair, if that’s something you are thinking about. It’s not something you would

see without picking the chair up and flipping it upside down first, to be able

to even notice. Doesn’t affect chair’s structural integrity in any serious way,

very minor thing. Just wanted to make mention of it, though.

ShippingShipping is a flat rate of $99.00 anywhere in the U.S. Additional chairs

ship for $49.00 extra, per chair. Will ship out SAME or NEXT business day.

Ships via UPS Ground (1-5 Days), and all shipments come with

Signature Confirmation, as well as Insurance.

By default, to reduce the size of the box needed, and to drastically

reduce shipping costs, we will disassemble the chairs into (2) large pieces.

Near the middle of the chair, directly under the seat of the chair, there are

  (4) hex screws in place where the frame body keeps the seat securely in place.

All we have to do to disassemble the chairs, is to unscrew the (4) hex screws

in these locations, and the chair will separate the top-half from the

bottom-half. We will wrap these (2) pieces in bubble wrap and other protective

packaging materials, and place them inside of a large double-walled heavy duty

  shipping box.

Once the chair arrives to you, all you need to do, is unbox the (2)

pieces, place them on top of one another, and then re-install the (4) hex

screws into the frame of the chair, and you are good-to-go. We will include

detailed instructions (with pictures) in your shipment, should you need

step-by-step assembly instructions. It’s really that simple. The only tool you will need for assembly is a 3/16" hex tool, to screw the (4) hex screws into the chair (tool not included). This is all you will need to do for assembly once your chair arrives.

If, however, you do not want to mess with installation of the chair

upon its arrival to you, we can offer an alternate shipping option, in which

the chair will arrive to you 100% fully assembled. This option is more costly,

though, so we would assume for most people they would rather save a

considerable amount of money by performing a simple screw installation to save

$100+ on shipping costs. Fully assembled is considered “oversized” in its

dimensions, so that is why the jump in cost is so high. It is because the

shipping company charges much more for shipping oversized packages like this.
