Dori's story
Dorian, or Dori as we have started to call him, was recently returned to us after his adopter tried for integrate him for 3 months, but found he was just not good with the unpredictable nature of small children. He needs a little space to adapt sometimes, and young kids arent always the best at understanding this, which just means they werent compatible. He showed some resource-guarding, and did not do well with having things taken away from him, or being caught off guard. As a result, there was an unfortunate incident where he did reactively bite a child in the home. He did not attack or maul aggressively, but did react to having something taken from him and let go quickly. He has shown no bite-aggression with humans outside of this isolated incident, and we believe he would have no problem in a home with children 12+. He hasnt even shown any food or toy aggression at all whatsoever in his foster home as of yet, so we believe this was likely an isolated incident.
Outside of the above, he is a very sweet dog who just takes some time to warm up to new people and be trusting. He isnt an in-your-face, lots of kisses, tons of energy kind of dog. He is actually VERY mellow for a husky his age, likes to wander around the house and explore and sniff in his own time. He knows how to use a doggie door and is very happy to have some space, but does come up to his human for some scratches and attention when he wants it. He has been doing great with the dogs in his foster home, who are huskies aged 4-7 and dont pester him too much. He even seems to want to play with the youngest one! He does not do great on a leash, and if he gets scared will lay down and cower. He will need someone with patience to work with him on this. He also tries to slip his harness when he gets scared walking, so his adopter will need to be sure to always walk him with caution until he begins to improve!
He has SO much potential for the right person. His behaviors are not typical for a husky, and we believe he could actually become perfectly bonded to the right human or human-pup pair and become incredibly loyal if given the time and patience to grow and thrive. He just needs the right human with time for his needs to give him a chance!
He comes neutered, up-to-date on shots, chipped and kennel trained.
