The 201-2 is one of the smoothest and most powerful machines in the Singer line of machines and this one is in exceptional condition. It has been thoroughly cleaned and adjusted. This is not your typical machine that's been stored in a damp garage or attic; it is in nearly new condition, has been recently serviced, and has well balanced tension. If you want to sew big projects like quilts, upholstery, canvas, drapes, car or boat covers, and clothing leather, this machine works great, but it also zips through small projects like dolls, grocery bags, and clothing. You may select to add an optional case or cabinet if you want it portable or mounted. I'll be happy to give you sewing tips and for you to try it out on a swatch of your fabric or some of mine. 　　All Metal Gears. This is a steel, gear-driven, sewing machine, so it is very reliable and easy to use. These are direct drive gears, so there are no belts to change like those in the Singer featherweight 221 and many other black Singer machines, no plastic gears to break like in the Touch & Sew models, and no computer problems like those of the new sewing machines. Rather than buy a new plastic machine for $800 that decreases in value when you leave the store, you can have an all-metal gear, strong, vintage machine that increases in value.

　　Drop-In Bobbin. The bobbin is a top-loading, drop-in type. This makes is easy to put in and change the bobbin between projects.

　　1950s Singer Quality. This machine is in great condition inside and out. The Singer decals are beautiful around the entire bed edges and the center. There are only a some fine scratches on the bed and arm as expected as it is a vintage machine.

　　Centennial Model. This 201 is the centennial model. It has the blue ring around the emblem signifying it was made for Singer's centennial celebration in 1951.

　　Balanced Stitch. This machine sews a well balanced straight stitch in light to heavy fabrics. Great machine for making big things like car and boat covers, upholstery items, comforters and quilts, and drapes. Yet, also smooth sewing in silk and cotton. 　　Clothing leather (1st photo), upholstery (2nd photo), canvas, vinyl, as well as cotton and polyester sew well.

　　Some people sell the 201 model as an industrial machine. It has industrial-type strength from the all metal gears, but fortunately, it is a domestic size and not a huge industrial machine. Singer made these 201 machines to be reliable and to sew heavy materials, but fortunately, they are not the industrial commercial machines that weigh over 100 pounds, cost much more, are mounted in huge tables, and have only one (very fast) speed. For most projects, this strong 201 model is a great pick.

　　Carefully Serviced. This machine was carefully serviced in September 2011. I cleaned and lubricated the famous metal gears and the important wheel gear, which engages the motor.

　　The motor was thoroughly cleaned. The brushes are nearly new at their original 1/2 inch length and the commutator is clean. This motor is strong, quiet, and smooth.

　　I cleaned and adjusted the tension system. You can see the springs are strong and the discs are in excellent condition with no rust. A retired Singer tech taught me how to adjust these to original Singer specifications and I love balancing tensions just right.

　　Setup. You get a great setup with your machine. Extra new sewing machine needles, a reproduced copy of the manual, zipper foot, bobbins, and even thread and other accessories. You'll be all ready for your project.

　　Optional Case or Cabinet The Singer 201 is a table top model. It has metal feet and sits well on any sturdy table. If you would like to take it to other locations you may add a vintage case for $10. If you would like to mount the machine in a table, you can add a beautiful walnut Singer cabinet for $60. These are optional.
