This hard to find, Italian beauty will get you noticed, at
least until you’ve left everyone behind and ridden out of site. But do them a
favor and stop later so they can admire your De Rosa Idol. With its extended
seat tube, it is definitely unique. If you’re worried about seat height, I have
a 31-32” inseam. And there is a few cm’s of adjustment available. If you’re
used to riding 56cm frames from most manufacturers, this bike will be about right.
If you need less, the seat tube can be cut down. If you’re used to riding a
59cm+, this probably isn’t your bike.I think its coolest aesthetic feature is this. As you get
closer, what you thought was black paint, is actually clear coat down to the carbon
fiber (see photos). For a 15 year old bike, it has less than your average amount
of wear. Please check all of the photos. They are high resolution. So, you can
zoom in close. I’m the second owner. And we both treated it well with the
possible exception of this. Sounds like the previous owner had some damage
around the bottom bracket. He had a professional carbon fiber technician do the
repair. I tried to photograph that area well. I’ve ridden it about 1000 miles
without any issues. There was some touch-up paint that hasn’t held up as well
as the factory paint (see photos). But only your mechanic would ever be in tight
enough to notice that. The best mechanic in town just went over it and made a couple
improvements, getting it ready for the next owner. He installed brand new “De
Rosa” bar tape and Schwalbe Lugano tires. The Colnago wheels are decent training
wheels. They are aluminum, not super light, and have at least 2000 miles on
them. But they’re pretty true and will get you rolling the day you receive it.
I will try to disassemble it as little as possible, so you have less work out
of the box. Components are Shimano 105 with the exception of the front derailleur which
is Campagnolo. It will come with everything you see in the photos. Why am I giving up this gorgeous work of art and craftsmanship?
I like red. But I love black and white. After many years of looking, I was able
to locate and purchase the white version. Now someone will be able to take advantage
of the fact I have one Idol too many and like black and white a little more
than red. Most of my friends would say I’m crazy. They’re probably right.
Please ask any questions you may have. For a nice read about
it and few more technical details, Google “Pro test: De Rosa Idol
review Frankie Andres rides a bike fit to be worshipped”. Purchase with confidence.
Free returns within the first 30 days. It will have to be in the same condition.
And you would have to pay the return shipping. I will try to get it there by
Christmas if this is someone’s present. But it might be tight.
