Daphne and her brothers, Shaggy and Fred, were found behind a dumpster in Eastern Washington when they were only five weeks old. A rescue group in the Tri-Cities area put the kittens in foster care before transferring them to Purrfect Pals in December 2017. The kittens were sent to us to receive specialized medical care for eyelid agenesis, a congenital disorder in which the eyelid doesn't form properly during development. While rare, it is the most common congenital eyelid disorder found in cats. The function of the eyelid is to protect the eye from drying out and trauma. The lower portion of the eye lid holds the eyelashes, which point away from the face and protect the eye. With the absence of an eyelid margin, the fur on the remaining skin around the eye can rub against the delicate cornea causing ulceration, infection and pain. On January 31, 2018, Daphne and her brothers received life altering cryosurgery on their eyelids to remove fur that was rubbing on their corneas. After a good recovery and follow up exams, Daphne has been cleared by the eye specialists for adoption. She is adorably cross-eyed! Daphne's first foster mom says she's a princess who loves her naps (a girl needs her beauty sleep after all), enjoys being petted, climbing high on the cat tree, having her belly robbed and being held. Her second foster family says Daphne is sweet, likes attention and rubbing up against you, purrs when you hold or pet her and loves to sit on the window ledge looking for birds and rabbits. She enjoys playing with bouncy balls, springs and crinkly catnip toys. Besides her brothers, Daphne has been around a friendly senior kitty in her foster home, as well as a very friendly lab puppy. With a proper, slow introduction she will probably do well with another cat. Like all Purrfect Pals kittens, Daphne has been viral tested, altered, started on vaccines, and microchipped. This kitty is currently in our Lynnwood Petsmart adoption center (18820 Highway 99, Lynnwood, WA 98036).
