The key to raising an obedient and well-mannered schnauzer is based on setting boundaries, socializing him extensively and exercising both his mind and body. Schnauzers can excell at dog performance events like rally and agility. They love nothing more than to run and play with those they love. He just wants to participate fully in the family. He makes an alert watchdog and may welcome strangers with enthusiasm or be a bit standoffish, even suspicious, if not well socialized. Schnauzers are adaptable, make excellent traveling companions. They do need regular (at least every other month) grooming. They are often tolerated by people with allergies if groomed regularly.
