Greengrit is a premium recycled crushed glass to be used as an economical green alternative to using glass bead, sand, coal slag, crushed Garnet and other abrasive medias. Greengrit has very low dust, is silica free, very hard and light weight. The light weight creates less surface friction, generating less heat making it ideal for blasting thin metal. Available in a variety of grits from coarse to very fine. 30-60 is common for refinishing parts of aluminum, cast iron and steel to a clean metal finish, which typically doesn't require secondary burnishing to accept top coats. It even does a nice non-damaging job on fiberglass and interior plastics. The very fine 60/140 cleans as well as the 30/60, but gets into small pin holes easier.
