Crissy *NEEDS FOSTER*'s story
Meet Crissy! Crissy was transferred from a high-risk shelter in North Carolina and hasn't had the best luck since. She is super sweet and sleeps soundly in her crate, but is certainly shy at first. She is an easy-going gal who would love an equally calm home. She has had a rough start and has not seemed to gain much confidence, if any at all. She was loved by a woman who truly cared for her for a few months, however they never seemed to create that assuring bond they both needed. Crissy is very unsure of her surroundings and how to act in most situations. She questions everyone's movements and intentions with wide eyes and slow steps. Once she gets to know you, she approaches with a little more pep and lets you know she understands the meaning of a leash and crinkling bags! She gets little burst of energy out in our play yards and races around for a bit until she gets tired (she's sadly overweight). She is seeking someone incredibly special to take her under their wing and show her the world isn't such a scary place. She just needs the time and patience it will take her get her to that point. She is not the kind of gal that appreciates being pushed into anything; she loves gentle people!
On a recent sleepover, she was nervous, but eventually accepting of her caretaker's resident dogs that simply coexisted in the same rooms as her, and she didn't pay any mind to the resident cat. However, due to her nervous nature, she may do best as an only dog, but does need a home without children. Overall, she was great at home and kept to herself curling up on a rug in the next room over from wherever her caretaker was. She went easily into her crate with a tasty treat coaxing her in, where she then slept soundly all night. She was even great about waiting to go potty outside! She is nervous about getting the in the car, but will eventually hop in with a little tug. She's simply a girl who had never known assurance and needs time to adjust at her own pace!
Crissy is available and able to have applications submitted once you've met (please email us first). All animals from DHA are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption.
Crissy is 1 of several animals that is seeking a "Breakaway Buddy" foster. This requires dedication and experience to help them become the best dogs they can be, while also prepping them for successful homes down the road (or maybe even yours)! If you are genuinely interested in one of these special dogs, you MUST make an appointment by emailing Steph at [email protected]. Please include the following info: the dog you're interested in, who lives in your home (humans and animals), if you are able to keep your home absolutely secure from visiting children during the foster period, and your experience. Thank you!
