Cricket's story
Cricket is a charming, unique and very special one year old Bulldog or French Bulldog mix. She weighs 42 pounds - an interesting size for her breed! Her rescuers tell us that she was running stray in the streets of Arkansas and due to her cleft lip, no one would try to help her. Thankfully someone did rescue Cricket and network her to Animal House for her second chance!
Cricket has boundless puppy-like energy and will be great for a family who enjoys lots of outdoor time and playing! Cricket is both house trained and crate trained. This high energy girl loves to play with other dogs and would love another playful confident (and patient) dog in her new home to help curb some of her energy! Cricket is not cat friendly or small dog friendly, her ideal companions are similar or exceed her in size. Cricket's favorite toy is a large squeaky rubber ball and she looks adorable when she plays! Just look at those ears!
Cricket does have a habit of guarding her food and toys in some situations, so an experienced all adult household is a must for Cricket's future success! Cricket has also shown signs of on leash reactivity and will need continued training.
Typical of Cricket's suspected breed, she did arrive at Animal House with a few abnormalities which have since been corrected surgically. Cricket's crooked grin comes from being born with a cleft lip and palate. Her cleft palate was repaired, but her silly face will always remain adorable! Additionally, Cricket had a malformed tail that had to be amputated, but that doesn't stop her from wagging her whole body when she is excited and happy! Cricket also has luxating patellas on both hind legs (her knee caps slip out of their grooves sometimes), causing her to limp occasionally, especially after exercise. She will benefit from joint supplements and veterinary monitoring to preserve her mobility.
Despite her hardships and all the things she is learning, Cricket is a love and will keep you smiling. She has a lot of love to give to the right home!
Cricket is in foster care and not at our shelter, please submit an application online if you would like to meet her!
