CrazyMama came to
us about 3 months back with 3 infant kittens. She had been a family pet, but her family sent her to the city shelter because they said she had become vicious following the birth of her babies. We took her and the kittens from the shelter, and found that the family's assessment was not far off.
CrazyMama wanted nothing to do with us other than swat at us, rip our jeans and our shoes and be wilder than most of the feral cats we trap.
We put
CrazyMam and her family in a small bathroom where they were away from noise, human activity, and other animals, but she did NOT calm down overnight as we had expected.
Nor did she calm down over the following week. Finally we put a Feliway diffuser in the room. Whether it was the pheromones being diffused in such a small area,
or perhaps because she had lost interest in terrorizing us, within 2 days she was noticeably calmer and after a few more days we could touch her.
Another couple weeks and she and her kittens had the run of the bedroom and bath. She now rubs against our legs when we enter the room and invites pets and attention.
Two of her kittens were quickly socialized and adopted out. Her third kitten, WildChild, is still rooming with his mother and runs from anything on 2 legs. (see his posting here also) While MamaCat is now a pleasant girl,
her child seems to be carrying on the family tradition of hostility to humans.
But he is young!
We would like these two to be adopted together.
We think they could do well in a workshop, storefront, office, or similar setting where they would not be expected to be lap cats, but would be around people.
CrazyMama would like the attention she could get in such a setting, while WildChild could progress at his own pace.

Always Negotiable!
