Description

I will have this bike in So Ogden for the first week of July if someone wants to see it or test ride it.I just finished building this bike. I built it to be my Rivendell, the one I could afford. The Soma Saga is a beautiful Tange Prestige steel frame. I have left the steerer tube uncut. The Saga has a nice long head tube, which made it possible to build this bike to fit a wide variety of riders. Here's a list of component choices and why I chose them.I used Deore XT hubs laced to some nice strong Mavic rims. I chose to go with an 8sp rear cassette. 6,7,&8 sp all use the same hub body and a wider chain. The chain is the strongest one out there and the likelihood of finding some compatible parts whilst on a tour is more likely. Tires are Continental.Brakes are Paul's Cantilevers. They have the strength to haul down a loaded touring bike and they don't stick out too far to impede with panniers. Again, serviceability, simplicity, and function. They can be actuated by mountain bike levers or road levers.Sugino triple crankset. Nuff said.I have two bar setups. I have a drop bar with Cane creek brake levers and Shimano barend shifters, and I have a Soma Oxford, ( think Nitto Albatross), bar with Tektro mountain bike levers that can be set to actuate cantilevers or V-brakes.I have two different stem lengths. The Soma bars come back toward you quite a bit and you can get away with a longer stem. The Soma bars take mountain bike shifters or barends. The Saga was built with spoke holders on the left chainstay and a nice kickstand plate. I have a kickstand with a rubber foot on it. I put a very nice rear rack on. It has eyelets in the fork for front racks. I used a nice Ritchey seatpost and a decent touring saddle. I also have a set of Continental Winter Tour tires to put on for winter. Tires are 700x40.The Saga comes in a very nice British Racing Green with Cream panel on downtube. Now the why. I started building this earlier in the year. I developed a staph infection in the bones of my right foot. I was hospitalized and on intensive IV therapy for 6 weeks. We still don't know if we are going to save the foot. I already have a prosthetic left leg.By the time I was done, I knew I wouldn't be able to ride this bike like I intended. I'm going to buy a recumbent trike instead. My loss is your gain. I am firm on price. I have way more than the asking price in it. You get two sets of new tires. Two handlebar set ups and a very nice functional, serviceable, and durable component selection. What's not to like?
