Cruise back in time to the Golden Age
of bespoke yacht building and step aboard the Gypsy d'Azur a flush deck cockpit
cruiser built in 1956 by JT&Sons original (contract # 374). The history of
owners who commissioned this famous yacht builder from Annapolis MD reads like
a 'who's who" of key leaders of industry and finance with names like
Firestone, DuPont, and John Deering (whose Miami FL mansion and grounds were
designed to accommodate his large bespoke houseboat) and of course, the famous
US Presidential yacht the USS Sequoia which is a national treasure by itself!
This cockpit cruiser is 55' LOA
styling a classic flush deck design that maximizes both the joys of living and
playing on her as well as makes her an excellent vessel to drive when underway
with full visibility and access all around the helm station. From bow to swim
platform she's 55' LOA with a beam of 13.8' and a 4.6' draft clearing 16.5 '
from waterline to top of mast. Powered by two GM Diesel 671s engines with a
Westerbeke 15Kw generator she's the perfect combination of reliable and
economical sipping fuel as she glides through the water with her sharp bow
profile and full-length keel. The owner has complete history records starting
with the original blueprint signed by JT Jr. Boxes of ships logs, guest
registry, and records of major work done including the extensive refit done in
the mid1990s at Roscioli Yacht where the vessel had fiberglass over the wooden
hull, extended fuel capacity for the owner who wanted to spend months in the
Bahamas and not pay for freshwater (via watermaker in lazarette) and 5 total
fuel tanks giving her a total of 500+gal Layout begins with crew quarters
forward with head and shower. Galley below and forward of main salon sitting
area which features rich mahogany paneling and period correct furniture. Travel
aft to the guest quarters (starboard) with guest head and shower (port) across
from guest cabin which has two beds plus two additional drop down bunks. Master
cabin is aft with a private head and shower. The queen-size bed and easy access
aft from this cabin to the open cockpit was designed during the 1990s refit.
This access is exceptional for easy of enjoying morning coffee by stepping out
of the master cabin with no need to pass through any other area on the yacht.
An added safe egress makes this a key element for access in and out of this
full-size door. The current owner has systematically repaired and restored this
classic tending to preserve her original glory while also adding modern Navionics,
marine WiFi, and many other touches in the galley and engine room. The Gypsy
d'Azur is currently being shown in Jacksonville FL. Contact the Captain/owner
