Description

  My story

07/26/21 17:42 Chloe was surrendered to the shelter because she was too timid and spent all of her time hiding; her owner realized they were not a good fit for her and hope that by surrendering her she can find her ideal home. Chloe has been through the shelter several times in her young life, and would like to stop the cycle with her new home.

Chloe was dropped off for the first time without any information, and her second home surrendered her due to her being nervous and wary of men. Chloe's most recent family was big and busy, which is simply too much for her.

Chloe's most recent owners stated that while she is shy and fearful with adults, she does great with babies and children and loves them a lot! Chloe's most recent owner feels like she might do best with only one or two people in her family, and would do best in a home with other dog(s) as she seems to draw confidence from their presence and could learn to take her lead from a more outgoing dog! Chloe even does fine with cats! Chloe is not aggressive at all when she is scared, she just hides.

Chloe MUST be on leash or in a fenced yard when outside as she is likely to be impossible to catch if she gets out.

Chloe does love to go on car rides, swim and run, so if you are outside of a fenced yard a long lead may be a good compromise to keep her safe but allow her some freedom! Chloe needs to be kenneled at night or when you are gone, as she suffers from anxiety and will soil the house if left unkenneled (she has no issues in the kennel).

She will need a metal/wire crate, as she can chew her way out of a plastic crate. Chloe is a young girl and loves to chew dog toys, blankets and shoes! Chloe's new owner will need to work with her on learning what is appropriate to chew and what is not, and should be vigilant about picking up items that should not be chewed. Chloe is said to walk very nicely on a leash, and takes treats oh so gently. If you are interested in Chloe, please consider consulting with a trainer and/or your regular veterinarian, who may be able to recommend training activities and medications to reduce Chloe's anxiety and build her confidence. Chloe has been on the anti-anxiety medication Trazodone in her most recent home, and a new owner's veterinarian may have additional ideas for her. Chloe is a very special girl looking for a very special and committed person who can give her the time and investment she deserves.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt CHLOE, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
