My story
Chick came to Delaware from a shelter in South Carolina at the end of Nov. 2019 to find a new home. She is very shy and absolutely terrified in the noisy shelter environment. Most dogs start to relax after a few days with staff; she remained intensely shy. A shelter volunteer fostered her for a few days to see how she would react in a home situation. She was afraid to get into the car, but then seemed to enjoy the ride. She is fine with other dogs (although still shy), housebroken, quiet and is excellent walking on a leash. She tolerated being stroked and petted but does not yet feel confident enough to relax with people. After a few days in the foster home, she did wag her tail a little when the volunteer approached and seemed a little less fearful, so some progress was seen! Getting this little girl to relax with people will be a slow, gradual process. She needs a patient, experienced owner who is willing to help build her confidence and provide her with love, routine and acceptance. Because of her extreme shyness, she is not recommended for noisy, unpredictable home environments or those with young children. If you have a cat, let us know and we can try Chick with our shelter cat, Simon. All our dogs are neutered, microchipped, heart worm tested, fully vaccinated and treated with flea/tick preventative.
