Fuzzy, friendly, & playful Cheddar is looking for a new home! He resembles a mountain lion somewhat but has no claws. Cheddar came to Demis after being abandoned at the shelter by his family because they felt he was aggressive. We are guessing he had to try to defend himself against other pets in the household that didnt give him his space or people who didnt understand his personal time! We have not witnessed any aggressiveness, but he can be over stimulated with a lot of human contact. In our foster program, he is slowly learning to trust that humans will watch out for him! A calmer household that understands he has some boundaries would be best for him.
Best Quality
Affectionate
will often jump into a lap, lick your hands, and purr. Rubs against legs.
Playful
LOVES playing with shoe laces. He gets bursts of energy late in the afternoon and runs around the house, taking turns playfully chasing or being chased by the other cats.
Likes
Being talked to affectionately
Greeting people at the door and following them around (especially when hes hungry!).
Looking outside
bonus points if he can be sitting in the sun at the same time
Dislikes
Stoke-like petting
Being picked up
Being brushed
Not having access to most of a homes spaces
Quirks
When overstimulated, his instinct is to bite. He needs a home where he will have control over his sensory intake to reduce or eliminate his impulse to bite.
He telegraphs how hes feeling with his tail. If its swishing quickly, let him be.
Licks (human) hands a lot
Sleeps on his back in the sunlight
Makes funny sounds when he sees moving reflections on the floor, walls, or ceiling
Still scratches at the scratching post, despite being declawed
Temperament
Generally confident, happy, playful, and affectionate but startles easily and can respond negatively. Hes wary around human hands & feet. Hes getting more comfortable with people and pets being closer to him.
Kids
maybe
perhaps older children who can be calm around Cheddar
Dogs
maybe
he was around dogs while in our foster program. He hissed and batted at them and the dogs backed away. No fights ensued.
Cats
maybe
he got along reasonably well with a feisty kitten and another adult male cat while in foster. He took a few bats at them, but each either just walked away or laid down. No fights ensued.
All animals are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, mircochipped and FIV/FeLV tested (cats) or heartworm tested (dogs). Please contact us at [email protected] with any questions!
