Cal's story

　　Cal is a super cuddly and affectionate yellow Lab about 3 1/2 years old. He was turned in to DLRR by a family who was moving and sadly couldn't take him along. This super handsome boy has a rangy, athletic build and the cutest row of curly waves down his back. He should weigh about 80 pounds when he fills out a bit more, but in the house he seems even bigger (!) because he's very powerful, sort of clumsy, and often underfoot asking for attention. He would undoubtedly knock small children off their feet, so any children in his new home will need to be older (maybe tween+). Cal is housebroken and has had some training but needs some help spiffing up his manners-- he's been known to take food off of counters, have a nibble or two on a stray shoe (although he mostly chews on legal targets), and pull pretty hard on the leash. He needs a family that will commit to consistent training while providing a home full of love and security. He tries very hard to please and responds really well to positive reinforcement. Cal would be thrilled to join you on the sofa or in bed if you let him, but he's very good about staying off the furniture in his foster home. Cal has seemed to get along easily with dogs he's had brief encounters with but it took a couple of rough days for Cal and his foster brother (2-year old dominant male Lab mix) to learn to get along. Now they often play together. Cal loves affection from people so much though that we think he'd probably be fine as an only dog as long as he got plenty of attention. This lovely boy has no known health issues and will need regular walks to meet his moderate exercise needs.
