Caissons wounds from his experience at the shelter are still healing.

　　He was afraid and didnt know how to react when he found himself in a strange place with people he didnt know.

　　He was so afraid that he didnt want anyone to touch him, and when they used a pole to restrain him, it scared him even worse.

　　He struggled until the side of his face was raw and he lost his tooth.

　　It was a very scary place for him and there was no one to trust.

　　When we went to meet other German Shepherds at the shelter the rescue coordinator asked if we would please meet a boy that had come in and would be euthanized.

　　After reading his notes we didnt know what to expect when we went to is kennel front.

　　The dog we met greeted us at the kennel front with a lost look in his eye.

　　He sniffed our hands and sat for us and must have sensed something different.

　　The offer of a treat won him over.

　　Caissons has not had an easy life.

　　The wounds he received in the shelter were new.

　　The condition of his body belied his age of four and painted the story of a dog who has lived a life of pain and neglect.

　　The ears were still healing from being exposed to the elements and the flies that constantly bite away at the ears.

　　His toenails were not toenails at all but more like talons.

　　The were so long and misshapen that it hurt for him to walk.

　　That day at the shelter, when Caisson came out of his run to meet us, you could tell he finally felt he was safe.

　　He still had the lost look in his eyes, but he relaxed and leaned against us getting every bit of attention he could get.

　　After making the long journey back to Coastal, he is learning that he has many other friends and he is enjoying life, maybe for the first time.

　　He still gets a lost look, but when he is able to be with another dog, you can see him begin to relax.

　　Caisson is looking for his forever home, one where he will be able to put the pain and neglect behind him, live in the moment, and make new memories, where his family can lead and guide him so that he continue to gain confidence and will always feel safe.

　　German Shepherd experience is a must and another dog would be very nice.

This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100%25 tax deductible. Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems. Our adoption process begins with completing an application on-line. A phone screening will soon follow, and lastly a home visit will be conducted by our volunteers.
