Brutus Labrador Retriever Adult - Adoption, Rescue

Description

Millie 10 year old female yellow Lab - 80 pounds

Brutus 4 year old neutered male black Lab - 77 pounds

We are Millie and Brutus. We are Millie and Brutus. Our owner had to move and could not take us with her, so Lab Rescue took us in and is working to find us a new home. Our foster mom says we are wonderful dogs. We are mother and son and we are looking for a home where we could remain together, if at all possible, and get daily exercise and lots of interaction with our new parent(s).

Background: Sweet Millie lived in two different homes in her ten years and has had two litters. The first litter resulted in Brutus, her 4 year old son, who joined the family. Their owner recently had to move out of her home with nowhere to go and asked GGLRR to take the dogs into foster and then find them a new forever home. Brutus has never known life without Millie and is bonded to her.

What Millies and Brutus foster says:

Millie and Brutus are very sweet dogs. Despite being 10 years old, Millie has the energy of a much younger dog and keeps up with Brutus without a problem. Millie is also known as Millie the explorer

she likes to see and check out anything that is new. Millie is quite confident and poised. She plays well with other dogs. Doesnt bark, is unphased by other dogs we cross in our walks or at the park. In the first few days she was a bit anxious being left alone and foraged for food. We got her a Kong, and this has resolved the issue.

Brutus loves to play ball and can do it for hours non-stop. Even in the house, he will ask you to play. If there are no balls, then Brutus will play with socks. He will find any socks lying around and loves throwing them into the air and catching them again. It is heartwarming to see how happy he can be with this game! Millie will play a bit, particularly if Brutus is playing and she wants to play with him (with the ball, or the socks!). Brutus is a bit more timid and highly affectionate. Less than a week with us, he gently weeps when he sees one of us leave, and welcomes us back home as if he has known us forever and not seen us in years. He will then shadow whoever returned asking for affection. He will move his head up to be scratched under the chin.

They know sit and shake. Both are housebroken. Both are very calm as they get dressed for their walk (we are using harnesses to help them learn to walk slowly) and even once they are dressed, they calmly wait for the door to be opened and patiently walk out. Past the gate, they will tug on leash. They are learning their leash manners and have made huge progress. Millie is completely oblivious to other dogs we pass. Brutus ignores smaller dogs but will bark at larger ones (his size or bigger). It takes a good tug and stop for him to settle. If allowed they will try to go onto the bed and sofa

we have been breaking that habit and they are responding well. Millie sleeps in our room -- -she will come in as soon as we do, and sleeps through the night. Brutus is still figuring out where he wants to sleep. He tends to move from the living room to the bedroom and back. They travel well in a car.

What Millies and Brutus rep says: We would love to see both dogs adopted together with a family who is active. These dogs will make amazing running and hiking companions. They should not go to a house with very small kids since in Brutus playing he will sometimes jump to ask you to join in the game.

Medical Information: Current on shots, heartworm negative and taking preventative. Millie received a clean bill of health during a recent wellness exam. We will coordinate Millies spay with her adopter.

Millie and Brutus are located in: Millbrae

If you are interested in Millie and Brutus, please contact Rescue Rep Sarah at

or e-mail (preferred) [email protected]. Provide information about your family, other pets, home, schedule, activities, dog experience and anything else you think will help me understand the life Millie and Brutus would live if you adopted them.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
