This bike combines a 1989 Bridgestone MB-2 Ishiwata lugged cromoly frame and KOSKI-style fork with remainder components sourced from an amazingly fresh 1993 Bridgestone MB-3 donor – including Ritchey Vantage Expert wheels, Ritchey stem and FD-6061T6 handlebar, a nice Avocet saddle, Tange seatpost, Sakae D.PAT.P pedals, Dia-Compe #986 brakes, and a Shimano Deore DX drivetrain with top-mounted friction+index shifters. The Onja bar ends seemed to be a sell-up option on every Bridgestone mountain bike of the era, and the Ritchey grips are in very good shape. For fresh paint, I took the frame & fork to Rick at D&D Cycles in San Lorenzo. The pearl red Toyota paint almost perfectly matches a beloved 1992 MB-3, which I foolishly sold back in 2010. A picture shows both of the source bikes, the 1989 on top is scarlet and the 1993 is purple in just behind. (yes, the decals say MB-2, but it’s the same frame for both 1989 models and Rick didn’t have quick access to MB-3 decals). The 1993 tires were sketchy, so I installed some Ritchey Speedmax Beta tires (26x2.0).Other than that, this is an 55cm frame is XL for mountain biking, so best if you’re 6-ft or taller.
