Description

  Brenna's story

This sweet, silly girl is Brenna, a 6-year-old Labrador Retriever. Brenna is solid black except for a touch of gray on her chin and is a normal sized Lab who weighs about 60 lbs. She is a very happy dog and just sweet as can be. She is silly and fun! Even though she is an adult, she LOVES to play. Chasing the ball is her favorite thing in the whole world and she even does an utterly adorable happy dance when she knows you are about to throw the ball. She is great on walks and hikes and loves car rides. She has good leash manners and doesnt get upset by other dogs or people although she does pull a little when she gets excited about going somewhere. She knows sit and stay and is a fast learner. She loves to cuddle on the couch with her person she is an all-around great family dog.

Brenna is currently fostered with 2 large dogs, as well as 2 cats, and does just fine with both. She gets along great with other dogs and is submissive. She is really curious about cats and will occasionally chase them if spotted across the house, but not in an aggressive manner. If you have cats that are used to dealing with big, curious dogs she should be fine. If you have cats that cannot handle this, then she will not be a good fit. She would be happy as an only dog, as long as she gets plenty of chances to chase the ball, plus cuddles and walks, as human interaction is what she enjoys most. She is housebroken, knows how to use a dog door, is not crated and is completely trustworthy when left loose in the house.

Brenna is mildly special needs due to a few weird allergies- such as grass and human dander. The good news is that they are currently under control and she is feeling much better than when she first came to us. She is currently on Apoquel, a medicine used to keep her from itching, as well as fish oil capsules. She is also on an alfalfa-free, grain-free, and poultry-free food. We have her on Acana Lamb and Apple Formula, available locally at Hollywood Feed, and it has been great for her and has helped her skin and coat immensely. It is really important to keep her on this food or something with similar restrictions, especially no alfalfa. Currently, Apoquel is given once a day and fish oil is given twice a day, both at mealtime. Brenna is happy to take her medication, just toss them in her bowl with the rest of her food and she gobbles them right up. She also requires weekly brushing and baths with allergen free shampoo to keep her soft and itch-free.

Brenna is fostered in Huntsville, AL and is up to date on shots, spayed and microchipped. She is ready for a new home with a fenced yard and the right family to love her. She wants a family who will take loving care of her, make sure she gets her meds and baths, give her lots of cuddles, and throw the balla lot.
