This unlikely duo has a story to tell...you see...Pepper was a dog on the street in Mexico. He lived like that for a few years with his brother Salt. Sadly, about 6 months prior to us helping him, Salt was picked up by the Mexican AC and after 72 hours in the shelter he was euthanized. This left Pepper to fend and live a lonely existence on the streets of Mexico.
A wonderful rescuer had been keeping tabs on the brothers
and when she found out Salts fate she was devastated. For months she would try and get Pepper to gain her trust, but without a rescue to help she knew he was better off where he was. When we learned of Salt and Peppers story we knew we had to try and help. It took a few weeks and Pepper finally walked into the trap to get food. Pepper spent a few months in Mexico learning how to trust and as fate would have it he met a little friend.
In comes Max...Max became Peppers emotional support dog, we kid you not. Max came into the vets office after having been hit by a car. Both his rear legs had surgery (he is fully recovered and no long term issues) Max is an outgoing lil dude who gave Pepper comfort and helped him see people arent so bad. There was no way we could leave Max behind, so together this unlikely duo crossed the boarder and went to a fabulous and patient foster who just happened to be a trainer.
Pepper is doing fantastic! Max was already perfect. Pepper and Max are now considered a bonded pair and will be adopted together. They are great together, Pepper does need to be fed in a crate though as he is still a little protective of his food, but Max has no issues at all. They are both house trained, great on the leash and both have learned a bunch of commands. They are an odd and unlikely pair, but who are we to judge?
