Ivermectin alone does not cure heartworm and does not kill the adult heartworm. Adult heartworm will continue to damage a dogs organs. Thorough heartworm treatment to cure a dog of the disease consists of diagnostics and a two prong approach to treatment for both the adult or immature heartworm. Veterinary care and supervision is key.
