and for access to our veterinarian. Sorry, no exceptions.

Adoption begins in early March, with a Foster-To-Adopt arrangement that continues until Bella 1) is old enough to be spayed/neutered and 2) has completed puppy kindergarten & canine good citizen training.
We do NOT do pediatric spays - with large breeds we often wait well past six months of age....

Bella is going to be a BIG GIRL! We're looking for experienced Bernese Mountain Dog or Great Swiss Mountain Dog owners.
Bella loves people and absolutely loves to be held. She has just joined us and is in medical quarantine to be sure she is completely healthy before joining her foster siblings. Once available, her profile will broadcast to 50+ pet search sites, and we will gather applications for several weeks prior to making decisions on options for Bella.
When applying for Bella, please describe the training and experiences you had/have with your Berner or Swissy! We lack fosters with young children so will be considering families with children older than eight years of age.
Bella's new home MUST HAVE at least one other friendly, playful large-breed dog, and a large backyard. Bella's adoption will not be finalized until her new family has participate in and completed both Puppy Kindergarten *and* Canine Good Citizen training with Bella. She'll be a very large dog and it is critical that she learn proper socialization and obedience while still very young.
If you believe you're a possible match for Bella, please complete an adoption application! Please include information regarding your experience with raising and training a giant breed puppy - specifically Bernese
We will gather applications for a period of weeks prior to making any decisions regarding Bella's placement. If you'd like to be notified of updates such as new photos/video or status, please register on our website and "Favorite" Bella's profile.
Our policies are on our home page at BetterDaysRescue.org.
**IMPORTANT** If you are reading this on a pet search site, PLEASE navigate to our animal list /animals/list and rea d Bella's entire, detailed profile page.
"Fenced yard" means, a backyard that is adjacent to and connected with your residence. (It does not mean a nearby fenced area/dog park.)
"Companion animal" means, needs at least one other friendly dog that lives in the same household.
We DO NOT adopt to students as we have found that they often do not know or anticipate where life is taking them next.
Dogs remain posted while we screen potential adopters. As long as Bella is designated "Available" we continue to accept applications.
We are staffed by all volunteers and use an application protocol to handle all inquiries about adoptable dogs. This system enables an efficiency that allows us to save and care for more dogs. Discussion about a dog - including scheduling of a home check or other dialogue - cannot occur until we have received your completed adoption application. NO EXCEPTIONS. Thank you!
