I do NOT use stock photos or canned descriptions. The vast majority of buyers want to see an item's actual condition, not
glossy photos
from the manufacturer's site. You can find the manufacturer's description and
specifications via online searches.
Pictures may include test equipment, cables, connectors, and
auxiliary equipment that are NOT a part of the auction. Read the description
carefully so you know exactly what you are bidding on.
This listing is for a beautiful VPI Scout turntable. Also
included, as shown in the photos, is the JMW Memorial tonearm and the VPI
Signature stainless steel record weight (it's a weight, not threaded "clamp").
Please view all photos carefully. I am not the original owner (I bought it from
a high-end audio dealer), nor do I claim to be an expert on turntables. There is
one small blemish on the base, but it's hard to see and difficult to photograph
because of the dark color (I've circled the blemish in red in two of the
photos). As the story goes (from the dealer), the record clamp was accidentally
dropped on the base during unpacking, thus causing the blemish. It does not
hinder the performance in any way and, again, is hard to see.
The tonearm is the JMW Memorial arm with 100g counterweight (I assume original JMW
Memorial 9?). The tonearm's wiring and the LEMO-style electrical connector are
all in fine condition. A tonearm cable (RCA-to-RCA plugs with ground wire) is
included, but nothing to brag about. You may want to replace this interconnect
with a higher-end (e.g. litz wiring) RCA-RCA cable. The record weight with its
damper rings is easily identified as the VPI Signature Record Weight, which
weighs in at an impressive 800 grams (this has to be one of the heavier record
weights on the market). Note: This weight's unthreaded design is compatible with
almost all smooth spindles, should you wish to use on your other favorite
turntable.
The platter looks nearly new, with no visible groove wear from
the belt. The belt and motor are also in fine condition. Regarding one photo
taken in the listening room (not in photo with Tungsten = W coffee cup): This turntable
sat, sadly unused, for a period of a year or more. But at least the platter was
elevated off the bearing (hence the bubble wrap in photo) so an impression on
any bearing surface wouldn't form. This turntable has been very well cared for.
A phono cartridge is not included. The counterweight is the VPI 100 gram weight,
which may be a tad heavy for lighter weight phono cartridges (I'm referring to a cartridge's body weight, not tracking force). Lighter weights, if needed,
are available from VPI dealers (alternately, you can add a small mass to the
front of the arm to make up for a weenie cartridge mass).
This turntable will be double-boxed, as shown in one of the
photos. This is not the original carton. I believe the boxes for the tonearm and
motor are original, but the main carton was from a different turntable.
Regardless, I will pack this with the utmost care. FedEx seems to be the best
choice for larger, heavier parcels, so that's how this turntable will safely ship. The total
shipping weight is around 38 lbs., and the shipping carton's outermost
dimensions are 22" x 18" x 12".
I'm batting 100%
positive feedback after nearly two decades of buying and selling on eBay. I
kindly leave positive feedback for those who do the same. Some recent feedback
(as a seller) includes: "Possibly the best seller on eBay
I've dealt with. Highly recommended." / "An extremely helpful seller!
Thank you for everything." / "Great seller! An
expert in sound measurement. Very responsive to questions." Prior to my current username, I had over 2000 combined selling and buying
reviews with 100% positive feedback (I've changed my username once or twice over
the many years).
I do not entertain best offers, nor do I end auctions early.
Item will be sold to the high bidder (heck, a single bidder might get a fantastic deal). My auctions are
old-fashioned auctions--the way they ought to be.
Payments must be received
within 72 hours after end of auction. Items not paid for after 72 hours will be re-listed.
No returns (buyer's remorse shouldn't be the seller's
responsibility--see * below). Nothing in this listing is misleading.
Photos are an integral part of the description: View
all photos carefully. If something isn't clear, write before you bid.
I pack items with great care--the same way I'd like to receive a
delicate or valuable item. Like other sellers, I do not have control over shipping
costs or carrier delivery time. Small-
and medium-sized items will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail. Large parcels
will be shipped via UPS Ground. Unlike Jeff B,
neither eBay nor I operate our own shipping services--this means no
"prime" or overnight shipping.
*Here's why I no longer accept returns: Too many bidders
with buyer's remorse had intentionally damaged
perfectly good equipment in order to receive a return. In other instances, buyers
were simply incompetent: Equipment was damaged because these buyers
did not know how to properly use it; yet, they wanted refunds because of the
damage they caused. Bottom line: NO MORE RETURNS! If the wrong item is shipped
(I have yet to do this), I will promptly exchange the item and pay for shipping
to-and-from the buyer. Please understand what you're buying is USED (unless it's
clearly stated as new).
RE electronics equipment: I encourage all viewers to
compare
my listings to other sellers' listings and photos: If a printed circuit
board is on anything other than an ESD mat, then the seller doesn't know
how to exercise appropriate ESD
precautions. Many electronic devices are easily compromised or destroyed
due to
improper handling. I use
appropriate ESD protection measures when handling
static-sensitive equipment. Items that are ESD sensitive will be shipped
in
anti-static wrapping.
