The Persian cat is one of the oldest breeds of cat. In Britain, it is called the "Longhair" or "Persian Longhair". The breed supposedly originated from Persia (now Iran). However, because of the interbreeding of Turkish Angoras with native British Domestic Long-hairs in the 19th Century, the true history of the Persian breed is somewhat unclear. Persians usually have very thick and long coats. They have short legs and a wide head. Persians also have large eyes and an extremely foreshortened muzzle that gives this breed such a recognizable appearance.
Temperament
Persians are very docile cats with a calm, laid back attitude and a very quiet demeanor. If these cats are given the attention that they seek they will be very affectionate and loving to their owners. They are not very active and are considered more often as lap cats than anything else. These cats are both sweet and caring and no aggression should be present in the breed. They do like to play and owners should spend time with their Persian playing to keep these cats mentally and physically stimulated. These cats are perfect for families with small children and with other domestic pets as the Persians easy going attitude means there will be no conflict.
