My story
Bear is a courtesy post. He is looking for a family who can give him the love, time, and attention he deserves!! Bear is 4-years old and is a tremendously sweet, well-behaved, house-trained, and very lovable dog. At 77 pounds, he is a great big ball of LOVE!! Our daughter originally fostered and adopted him in the spring of 2020 during the height of Covid with the intention of bringing him with her to Phoenix during her college years, but she was never able to do so, and now she has a boyfriend who is allergic to dogs.
He is a family dog who needs lots of love, and we feel bad for neglecting him as a result of our busy work schedules. He’s neutered and very mild-mannered. He is great with kids and good with other dogs as long as the dogs do not show any signs of aggression. However, he just wants to soak up on the human love he can get, so he would be more than happy to be in a home where he gets all of the attention from the kiddos! He has never lived with cats, but he has been seen trying to chase them on walks, so he may do best in a home without cats or a dog savvy cat with a really solid introduction. When bear was rescued, he had to have the head of his femur removed due to an injury. The head of his femur was removed and the femur bone now rests in the hip socket without the ball attachment. I think it is a fairly common surgery among dogs to avoid hip issues. He doesn't exhibit any symptoms or pain with his back right hip. He had surgery almost three years ago and has had no issues since.
I have taken him on walks and runs of up to 5 miles without any incident or issue. Here's a good website describing the procedure and ensuing ramifications: https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/femoral-head-ostectomy-fho-in-dogsPlease email [email protected] if you are interested in adopting!
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bear, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
