Description

  BEAR's story

Bear has been surrendered to the shelter three times in the last year for the same reasons each time- his owners have not been able to provide the time and exercise he needs, and he becomes destructive when left alone without the mental stimulation he requires.

Bear is a true example of his breed- he is active, he is smart, and he gets into trouble when left to his own devices. Bear needs a home that will engage him in extended periods of physical activity every day.

Please do not consider adopting Bear unless you can provide this. Bear is NOT an apartment dog.

Bear has gone through basic obedience classes with his most recent owners and has developed some extremely nice manners! Bear knows ''sit'', ''lay down'', ''sit pretty'', ''between'', ''through'', ''heel'', and ''wait''. Bear''s most recent owner states that he plays nicely with other dogs at the dog park, and enjoys the company of other dogs in the home but can be so insistent on play that some dogs may feel overwhelmed, so he may do best in a home either as an only dog or in a home with multiple high energy, playful dogs that will be able to match his level of play. Bear can play a bit rough for smaller dogs, although he is not noted to be aggressive. Bear has problems with separation anxiety and doesn''t like to be away from his pack, even if he is simply on one level of the home and everyone else is on another level. Bear is VERY smart and can jump fences; he has learned how to break out of basic wire and plastic kennels, even getting loose in the cargo hold of an airplane, and has opened car doors! Bear will likely need a heavy duty ''lion-tamer'' style kennel, which can be expensive, and his new owners should be prepared to work with him on conquering his separation issues. A behavioral consult with your regular veterinarian may provide some ideas for working with Bear''s anxiety. Plenty of play and exercise will also help reduce Bears anxiety! Bear does well with children and adults, according to his most recent owner, but will try and eat small animals and may chase cats, although we do not believe he has ever met them.

If you can devote plenty of time and energy to Bear, and love to go on awesome adventures with a fabulous doggo companion, ask to meet Bear today!
