My story
The very first thing that Bart the Dachshund..with a bit of Beagle in the mix wants to make clear is that he's a love. In these photos, you're not aware of his gorgeous dark eyes that are filled with so much wisdom for such a young guy. Bart's coat couldn't be softer...with a commitment to lifelong sudsy baths, brushing and great nutrition (salmon oil is an excellent daily lifelong supplement for coat care and longevity), Bart's hair will not only be cottony-soft but will shine with good health. Everything is new to Bart...he sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. When given the time to acclimate and get over his shyness, Bart will be on your lap or cuddling close on the bed as he sleeps through the night next to his beloved family members. Bart is happy there because his human relationships are so important to him. We have to remember that Bart came from a very small Arkansas shelter at the end of a dirt road with almost no qualified adopters. His opportunities were virtually non-existent as he was recognized as a great dog that would enhance a loving family. Our rescuers reacted with immediacy to save his life... Farfel's was contacted and we were very excited to welcome Bart into our rescue. This 18 month old, 24 lb guy (perfect size for hiking as well as snuggling close at day's end) truly lights up when he feels like he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. Bart is the perfect size and temperament to accompany his people everywhere a smaller, very sweet dog is welcome. With time and bonding with his people, Bart will feel comfortable in every situation knowing his family is near. We envision Bart with active retirees or a family with very gentle older kids who want a very handsome and loving dog as a family member and best companion. Bart would be so excited to spend his days in the company of his favorite people. Being a Doxy/Terrier, Bart will require physical exercise (to keep this young, active guy happy and fulfilled) as well as mental stimulation (he's super-smart!). Bart will be a natural in positive reinforcement/force- free group obedience classes. He will love the challenge because he's so smart and wanting to please. Farfel's feels so strongly about this training opportunity for Bart that we're unwilling to place him with a family that doesn't support training. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved, excellent force-free trainers in your area.Bart will be overjoyed to hike along gorgeous Colorado paths and trails..enjoying the sunshine and time with his people. Bart's basic nature is to be very positive and extremely joyful and often silly. He's therefore so much fun to be with and enjoy the outdoor wonders of life in Colorado together. Bart will be arriving on transport in early May (exact date will be added when finalized). Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If you're interested in this extremely sweet, cuddly and fun-loving best friend, please fill out our application completely and submit.**PLEASE NOTE** PLEASE NOTE: If you're truly interested in adopting Bart, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder, Rescueme and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving guy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
