Maclaren Triumph Stroller Review
The
Maclaren Triumph is a lightweight umbrella stroller that is designed
for on-the-go parents who like to travel, run errands, or go to the
shopping mall. The narrow frame makes is perfect for navigating narrow
store aisles and public transit. Weighing 13.6 lbs, it
is very easy to carry over your shoulder. It also has a convenient
one-hand one-step fold that you can do while holding your child.
The 5″ wheels provide great maneuverability as long as you stay on
the flat surface. Since there is no suspension system, taking on the
rougher terrain will be bumpy. The roomy seat can accommodate a child
from 6 months and up to 55 lbs. Pros
-Small canopy. The canopy is small, provides little
sun coverage, and does NOT have a peekaboo window. It’s attached to the
frame and does not convert into a ‘floating canopy’. Overall, it’s a
little disappointing.
-Tall handle bars. The non-adjustable handle bars are located 41″ from the ground which is great for taller parents.
-Roomy seat. It is 13″ wide with 18″ seat back and a
measurement of 28″ from the back of the seat to the top of the canopy.
The seat has a strap-recline system with a small recline that does NOT
go flat. I found the unique strap system hard to do and wish it was the
same as on other strollers. The seat can accommodate a child from 6
months and up to 55 lbs.
-5 point harness. It’s an adjustable 5 point harness
with a center release buckle. Although it’s non-padded, I really like
how heavy duty the straps are. The buckle is hard to unlock of a
toddler, but is easy for parents. All you need to do is push the back
and the front of the buckle at the same time to unlock it.-Small basket. The basket will probably fit some
baby items, but that’s it. It’s not only small, but is also hard to
access especially if the seat is reclined.
-Wheels. It rolls on four double 5″ wheels that are
made out of hard rubber. The front wheels are swivel, but can be locked
straight. Since there is no suspension and the wheels are small, it will
be a bumpy ride if you decide to take it off the road. The wheels are
designed for flat surfaces and don’t do that well on a rougher terrain.
-Parking brake. It has two linked parking brakes in the back. They are flip-flop friendly and are easy to lock and unlock.-Compact fold. It folds down just like a regular
umbrella stroller. It is a one-hand one-step fold. There is an automatic
lock. The Triumph is very compact with folded dimensions of 13″H x 11″W
x 41″L.
-Shoulder strap. There is a shoulder strap in the
back of the stroller for convenient traveling. Since it weighs only 13.6
lbs, you can easily carry it over your shoulder.
Cons
-No adjustable foot rest. The reason I am listing it here, is because the Quest model has it. It would be an easy addition.
-Small canopy. It might be considered a good size
canopy for an umbrella model, but if you compare it to a full size
stroller, it’s small. I think Maclaren should just make it into a
‘floating canopy’ so it can follow the sun. -Small basket. The umbrella strollers are known for
having a small hard to access basket. Well, the Triumph is not an
exception. I think that basket is even smaller and harder to access than
usual.
-Lack of storage. Except for the small basket, there is no cup holder, child’s tray, nor zipper pocket for small items.
