My story

　　Age: 1 year (as of 09/01/22) Weight: 65 pounds (as of 01/24/23)

　　Location: RI    This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.

　　Ava Above & Beyond is an affectionate and intelligent young dog. Ava is eager to please and is learning a lot at her foster home. She loves meeting new people but might act a bit shy at first but give her some time and she will be your new best friend. She is friendly with other dogs and would do best with another well-balanced dog in the home. She has lived with cats and seems ok with them. Ava did well with a young child that regularly visited her in a previous foster home, however she can be a little shy and timid around kids and would probably do best in a low traffic household. Ava is housetrained, walks great on the leash, and is doing a lot of training with her crate where she now only barks at first then settles in. Ava does well on car rides and loves going new places but does not enjoy being left in alone (free) in a car. Ava is a goofy and even-tempered and loves chew toys and cuddling.

　　Medical Note:

　　This dog has been treated for heartworm disease with melarsomine injections. Once treatment is com- pleted and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is:

　　Medical Note: This dog tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia while in SOS foster care. This does not mean that this dog had ehrlichia.
