Description

  Australian Shepherd - Rosco - Medium - Adult - Male - Dog

Bio Neutered Male, Approximately 3 1/2 years old, Tri-color, 55-60lbs Registered with Maricopa County as Australian Shepard / Corgi Mix Diet - Flint River Ranch; 1 cup AM, 1 cup PM - Monthly Heartworm Prevention From the current owner: Why I love Rosco... Rosco is a super sweet and loving companion dog. He will sit for hours straight if you continue to pet him. He likes to be brushed and will gladly accept as many treats as you are willing to give. He does not beg for food, but will sit patiently to the side in case you drop something and you need help cleaning up. He loves to be in the same room as you and will follow you to the bathroom if you let him. Even with his heavy coat, he will follow you outside when it is 110 degrees and find a shade spot to sit and watch while you work. Rosco is a very smart dog, too smart sometimes. He knows what is going to happen before you get the leash out or give a command. Rosco appreciates routine and once you?ve done something with him a few days in a row he does it without needing a command and usually at the appropriate time. I had my dog trainer work with him for only a few weeks before he got all the basics down. He is a happy-go-lucky dog and plays well with other dogs. He and my 90lb Rhodesian Ridgeback / Pit Bull mix can play a little hard sometimes, but both seem to enjoy it and only once in a blue moon does one get a little scratch. Rosco loves to go on walks, to run and play with toys and once he gets to know you, loves belly rubs. Rosco enjoys going on car rides and if he ever gets loose, just drive up next to him and open the door, he jumps right in. Rosco is such and sweet and affectionate little guy Reason that he needs a new forever home.. Rosco is not good with little kids, toddlers to middle school age. I was not aware of this when I rescued him 2 1/2 years ago and at the time I did not have a family and a toddler. Rosco showed no interest in the baby since we brought her home from the hospital so I hoped he would just steer clear of her when she started walking. We?ve let her pet him while holding her, but other than that they?ve had no contact. My daughter is now 16 months old and started walking within the last month; this is when we discovered the issue. When we started to walk her around the house holding both hands he started to approach her in a herding sort of manner, but did not bark. I stopped walking her in the same open room as the dogs at that point just because it made me a little uncomfortable. There has always been two gates separating the house, one side for the dogs and one for the baby. Now that my daughter is walking, Rosco will occasionally rush the other side of the gate barking at her if she is walking down the hall in his direction. At some point my daughter will outgrow the gates and let herself in and out. I am afraid if Rosco is here at that point it will be a hostile, scary environment for all of us, Rosco included. I love Rosco with all my heart and want him to have a happy, stress free home life which I do not think he will be able to have here long term. Important Notes Rosco is scared of loud noises like thunder, fireworks and the vacuum cleaner. He will run and bark at the sliding door or at the vacuum if he is in the same room. I?ve done my best to calm him while these are going on and have had some success. Rosco is also scared of the groomer and of the vet, more so the female techs in scrubs than the vet who wears regular clothes. He had a bad experience with a groomer early on and I have yet to get him to a happy place about the task. I do have a few references for groomers that have worked with him successfully and a few others I have in line to try. I can also share my vet?s information and the name of his eye doctor. I hope that the cancer does not recur but if it does, I am prepared to assist financially if the new owner is unable to. When Rosco is scared of the groomer or the vet he gives a fair, low growl and if they push forward he may back into a corner and bark at them. My vet gets down and pets Rosco for a while before
