Description

Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) - Chase - Medium - Adult

Chase is a bubbly approximately four year old blonde, but his coloring, while unusual, is no indication of his smarts. He's very sharp, attentive, and trained. Chase knows several commands, although needs practice and consistent reinforcement, including "sit," "stay," "leave it," and many other English words such as "go," "walk," and he definitely knows his own name. He loves to play fetch, and will do so while being a classic "barnacle dog" as he follows his foster mom around the house, leaving his giant squeaky tennis ball at her feet while she washes dishes, folds laundry, brushes her teeth, or works on her computer. He loves to go for walks, and walks well on your left side with gentle reminders to "heel." Chase is also quite affectionate, and loves to snuggle his head against his foster mom and get his ears rubbed, but his favorite spot to get rubbed is right in the middle of his lower back above his nubby tail, and a good rub down is guaranteed to get his nub wagging. He has been known to bring his leash when he wants to go for a walk, and being house-trained he is good about letting his foster family know he needs to go outside by standing next to the door patiently. He also enjoys trips to Petsmart where he can greet all the dog-friendly humans with his wagging nubby tail and perky ears.

He does well with other adult dogs, in a calm environment where little rough-housing and low noise levels. That said, Chase is a people dog first before he shows interest in his foster sisters (another ACD and a hound mix). He would most likely do well in a home with older children, not young children. It is unknown if he would be good with cats, but shows signs of living up to his name in how he reacts to the neighborhood cats near his foster home. While fairly well-trained and of a sweet disposition, it is believed that Chase would be better with an experienced cattle dog owner for consistent reinforcement of good behavior. And, probably would be just fine as an only dog with someone who might like a jogging pal and has a big yard for a good game of fetch.
