Description

  My story

04/26/22 14:35 Atticus and his pal Ace arrived at the shelter as strays and were later surrendered to the shelter because the owner's housing situation did not permit them to live there. Atticus and Ace were frequent fliers at the shelter and around southside last summer (Atticus was the smarter of the two and managed to keep out of the shelter until this most recent impound- Ace never learned and came back several times). Their owners report that they are super good dogs, but are door bolters and runners- it was especially difficult in their household because they had small children that were frequently in and out of the doors, and the dogs would watch and wait to take off when the kiddos gave them an opening. Atticus is said to be super sweet, loving, gentle, and easy going- he likes to go out and run around but is calm in the house.

Here at the shelter Atticus had some stranger danger at first but warmed up quickly and is now a total delight!

Atticus was said to be not a big barker in the home unless someone comes to the door. Both dogs were noted to be social with other dogs including smaller dogs, but have never been around cats. Atticus has been an intact male until recently, and has been known to very rarely get snippy with other intact males/dominant dogs so please just take introductions to new animal friends slowly and use caution. His very occasional inclination to be the 'big man' may dissipate after his neuter. Atticus and Ace have been friendly with their doggy neighbors here at the shelter!

Atticus is said to be a total doll with children.

Both dogs are housebroken as long as you get them out regularly- they have done well at keeping their kennels clean here at the shelter! Atticus came to the shelter smelling of diesel fuel he may have rolled in while out and about; he received a bath here at the shelter and was a champion about the ordeal and very well behaved. Ace and Atticus are accustomed to being left loose in the house when their owners are gone, and as long as the trash is up and there isn't any food left lying around they do fine.

The previous owner did note that while the dogs were chewers as pups, they just provided them with appropriate bones and chews and have never been ones to destroy the house. The two dogs are peas in a pod and get along like brothers. If a special home wanted to take on both of these boisterous boys, they might really enjoy finding a new home together!May 7, 2022, 10:55 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt ATTICUS, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
