My story
The very first thing that Ash the Schnauzer (with just a touch of Wheaten Terrier in the mix) wants to make clear is that he's a love. In this photo, you're not aware of the darkest charcoal and pure white markings on his stunning, scruffy coat. It is with grooming, care and great nutrition that Ash's cottony-soft coat will show its gorgeous colors. Everything is new to Ash...his little nose sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. And before you know it, Ash wants to be next to you on the couch or cuddling on your lap. He's so happy there because his human relationships are so important to him. This 18 month old, 33 lb guy truly lights up when he feels like he's done a good job. Some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. In this spirit of great behavior (he is an extremely loving and sweet as can be guy), Ash is working on mastering his house and leash skills (he's making great progress!) and understanding the joy of being in a foster home filled with love and kindness.Ash's foster mom has the following to say about this very sweet dog...Ash is doing great in my home! He's such a great companion and really enjoys (and even loves) my 2 grumpy dogs and they all have the greatest time playing in my yard. Ash enjoys the fun and silliness...it's all with puppyish good nature and nothing but fun. You would expect a young Schnauzer mix to be a little crazy and have tons of energy..this really isn't usually the case with Ash. He does love to play and have fun.. and then is very happy to crash on the couch with my two dog-crazy 14 year old twin daughters and their friends. Or Ash is very excited to cuddle close on the bed right beside me..he sleeps like a log all night long. ASH'S SUMMARYAsh is such a sweet people and dog's dog. He really enjoys older kids..I haven't tested him with children under 10. Ash is such a lover and very engaging around those that are kind to him. I do feel however, that he may be a bit overwhelmed by very young children who may pull his tail or handle him awkwardly. Kids approximately 10+ would be a good fit for sweet Ash... but we do ask that they love dogs and are very kind in their interactions with our sweet guy. We can envision Ash with an active, very loving retired couple or individual or a younger family who works part time or from a home office. We feel that Ash is too sensitive a guy to be left alone for the long hours of a full-time job. Being a young Schnauzer mix, Ash loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. He would be a natural in positive reinforcement/force free group obedience classes. These classes are so important in bonding as well as teaching a dog the skills (in a very positive way) to understand boundaries and commands.. and to therefore be a well-behaved partner out in the community. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of positive reinforcement trainers in your area.Ash will be overjoyed to hike along stunning Colorado paths and trails..enjoying the sunshine and time with his people and other dogs along the way. His nature is to be very joyful and often his silly and fun nature takes over. Ash enjoys the company of other dogs and has always lived with several..a multi- dog household would be perfect for this very engaging and sweet guy.We believe Ash to be a non-shedding or lightly shedding guy (difficult to tell for certain until his sad shelter hair grows out). He will therefore require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy and cottony-soft. Excellent food and a daily salmon oil supplement will provide Ash the necessary nutrients for a gorgeous coat and a long and healthy life.Ash will be arriving on transport in Denver on Wednesday 1/15/20.
