Apollo's story
Meet Apollo! If ever there was a gentle giant, he is it! Apollo appeared at the front gate of the Columbus House, our safe house for dogs. There were two dogs, Apollo and another much smaller one. A volunteer opened the gate Apollo hesitantly made his way through as his friend darted away. It was obvious to us that this sweet giant did not experience much kindness prior to coming into our care. In a nutshell, he was terrified. Any movement of hands would bring him to the ground. To this day, we are careful with our hands around his head. We had to move slowly, speak softly and be so very patient. Over time, days...weeks; Apollo has come full circle. He is puppy-like now ...greeting us with gigantic, flaring paws. His smile is as big as they come! He gives kisses and has mastered the doggie door. He is no longer afraid to come inside and he loves to rest in his kennel and come lumbering over to place his head on your lap for some pets. Apollo is simply the sweetest and he also absolutely head-turning gorgeous. Apollo loves other dogs but it takes time for the other dogs to get used to his size. He towers over the dogs he has met and when he gets to romping with them, his paws come flying with excitement. Apollo will make the most wonderful companion. He has paid his dues in his prior life, a life of some abuse we believe and neglect. He deserves his own couch and much love.
