This beautiful antique tiger maple mirror has been in my family for three generations.  I believe the style is Chippendale and that it was made before 1850 (see note in next paragraph).  I inherited the mirror from my grandmother, who began collecting antiques from her home in Youngstown, Ohio, in the 1920s and 1930s, I believe.  She had many large pieces of antique tiger maple furniture, which were then handed down to my mother and uncle and eventually down to my brother and to me.  It is believed that these pieces were purchased in the Pittsburgh area—or perhaps in eastern Ohio.  Each piece has been prized by family members and lovingly taken care of. I have had this mirror since 1972 when I was 20 years old.  It went with the beautiful antique tiger maple bedroom set that I inherited from my grandmother.  I loved the set--especially the honey color or the wood and the beautiful “tiger stripes.” I believe this mirror was made before 1850, since a white envelope I reflected in the mirror appeared to be yellow.  I am no expert, but this is what I read online:  “New glass is thinner and gives a whiter reflection than old glass. You can test this by holding the edge of a white card against the glass. If the card and the reflection are the same white color, the mirror was made after 1850. If the reflection is more yellow or gray, the glass was made before 1850.”The mirror is 19” long, 9 1/2” wide, and 1 1/8” deep.  It is in very good condition.  I expect the mirror at one time had a wooden back, but now the back is corrugated cardboard.  There is a sturdy wire mounted on the back of the frame for hanging the mirror on the wall.This mirror will be shipped and insured by FedEx Ground.  They cannot deliver to P.O. boxes.  It will be very carefully wrapped with plenty of cushioning materials to ensure safe delivery.
