What a find… another treasure from my in-laws the hoarders! They were married in 1921 and they hoarded their things as well as their parents things!
My father-in-law came to America in 1918 from Stuttgart, Germany.
He returned to the homeland several times during the last half of the 20th century bringing home not only his mother but many of the family treasures. I’m quite sure this lamp was one of them…I find no signature on it. It’s very Moser like design. My research indicates this is probably 1850 to 1890 very bohemian probably Czechoslovakia and was beautifully made.It looks like it may have started life as a vase, and then it became a lamp, and then it appears my father-in-law‘s handiwork might’ve gotten into it as well. When I found this, everything was in pieces, I had to put it together to realize it was a lamp. The workmanship on the enamel panels are delicately hand painted flowers in pink and blue, gold guilt, swirly whirly, work on the cranberry colored glass, and exquisite cross hatched enameled panels as well.I’m not sure why it was in pieces,
I’m not sure what my father-in-law was trying to do with it m, but I have noticed it appears there was a hole in the very base of the vase, which is a separate piece from the vase itself and something has been plugged in that hole, it’s very very old. Also, the very top of the vase part itself has what appears to the eye to be a chip, but it’s not… You cannot feel it with your finger. It is merely a manufacturing issue. Some of the gold guilt is worn away. Obviously it needs an electric wire and a shade. Other than that you could have this very historic Victorian piece of Czechoslovakian glass for a great price…. Pieces like this in vintage condition are selling for thousands of dollars. Please view all the photos, and if you have any questions contact me, I will be very happy to help, thank you!
