Very large (36"W x 29"H x 21"D, interior dimensions) antique (1880's) trunk. Barrel stave top style with metal edge binding and trim, double hasp brass lock and iron latches. It has 5 hardwood slats across the top and 2 across the front, rear and both sides. The body is thick pine. The lock was made by "Star Lock Works" of Philadelphia and is in working order with the original barrel key. The slat ends ornamental cast metal clamps as well as the iron latches in front were patented by Charles Taylor in 1877 & 1878. The truck bottom has the original wood slats and sheet iron covering. Interior is cleaned out to the bare wood. Trunk is in overall good, nearly complete, unrestored condition with some surface wear and typical signs of age and use.
