American Staffordshire Terrier - Buddy - Large - Young - Male

If you are interested in this dog, please see contact info below****** Buddy is a young, exuberant, lovely and fun chunky monkey. He has a cute and expressive head/face, with standing up ears that add to his personality. His original caretaker/foster was so worried about him being out in the streets for some time that he fed him more than needed, since he took him home, at the end of December 2012. He is currently around 62 lbs. Buddy is a friendly neutered male (neutered on Feb 10, 2012) looking for a responsible owner who will continue to work with him in a positive way and commit to him for a lifetime. He is a strong boy and he is not aware of it. Buddy can get excited during play and when "his people" come home and, like any young dog, can become a little mouthy but also displays good bite inhibition. He sits politely for a treat and he is learning new behaviors through clicker training and positive reinforcement. He is also learning how to walk on a leash and Freedom harness and orient toward the handler when something catches his attention. Buddy likes to lay on his back for a belly rub and definitely enjoys human interaction and meeting new people on his walks. Buddy is currently crated inside at night without issues, and used to spend his day alone in an outside kennels in his caretaker backyard. This was not an ideal situation, his original caretaker was doing the best he could, considering the circumstances. Buddy is now spending most of his time at my house to be exposed to different environments and learn house manners. He is becoming familiar with baby gates boundaries, the presence of other dogs (separated by gates) and the resident cat. His status will be update as things progress. While Buddy might be fine interacting with friendly female dogs, in an appropriate and supervised environment, it is my rescue policy to prohibit new adopters to take a pit bull or pit bull mix to any dog park, for the sake of the breed. Please understand that there is no discussion on this matter. Buddy can potentially be placed in a responsible home with a friendly resident female, depending on the adopter experience with multiple dogs and pit bull type dogs, and willingness to provide a safe place for all pets in the house, at all time. Home checks and adoption trial required, prior finalizing an adoption through contract. Follow up home visits, when convenient to the adopter, are also part of the adoption process. No dog is adopted to live a life on chain, alone in a back yard or in a kennel. Dogs are placed based on the environment offered, which has to include mental and physical stimulation.
