Amelia is a darling little 7 month old Shepherd mix.
She has pretty tan and white markings and the biggest and most expressive ears!
Amelia was brought to us as a very skinny stray.
She was super sweet from day one, even though she was pretty timid, and she's really blossomed in just a short time.
She has a darling personality and is very submissive.
Amelia is very food motivated and still eats as if shes starving.
Weve been using a slow feeder for her to slow her down and keep her from eating too fast.
She loves treats, too, so thats a great way to win her trust when shes being a little shy. A volunteer has taken her to Loose Park a couple of times she was pretty shy the first time, but a week later she was more confident and really enjoyed the long walk. She currently weighs just 29 lbs and is at a good weight now, so we don't expect her to be very large, maybe 40-45 lbs tops.
Amelia likes other dogs and likes to play with dogs, but she doesnt like them jumping all over her or getting in her face all the time she's submissive and it scares her and so she prefers dogs with some manners!
If you have a dog, you could make an appointment to bring your dog in to meet Amelia to see if theyre a good match.
She will need work with house training and other typical puppy stuff.
Amelia has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for heartworms.
MORE ON ADOPTING OUR DOGS...
Please visit our web site at HSGKC.ORG for more information about our adoption process, our adoption fees and all that's included, and for a pet adoption application.
> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. We encourage you to fill out an online adoption application and submit it before you come to see us. This helps us process your application more quickly and we can schedule an appointment for you to come in so that our small staff can serve you best. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of the pets you meet, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the pet home with you that day. Well instead schedule a pick up date and time thats convenient for you.
> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home.
All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!
> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs.
Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.
Thank you for searching for a shelter pet!
