Alexander, TRD's latest recruit, is a handsome Australian Shepherd Mix who is sure to steal your heart with his dashing good looks with a charming personality to match. Alex has a smooth beige brown coat and a widow's mark on his forehead, which give him a unique and dashing look. At 1.5 years as of March 2018, he is full grown at about 45 pounds, making him an ideal addition to a family looking to adopt a smart, medium sized dog.
According to his foster dad, Alex is naturally a friendly, calm, and confident dog. He is well-mannered and easy-going with people and dogs in his home and when he meets them in his daily walks. He responds well to correction from dogs in his foster home and has been respectful with them. He loves to play with them in the backyard and has been great on leashed walks as well. At home, his favorite toys are Nylabones.
Alex is working on his crate training and he is already comfortable sleeping in his crate over night. He has counter surfed and chewed on non-toy items in his home on occasion--he responds well to redirection and is learning to phase out of these hangover habits from his puppy days. As a medium sized dog, daily walks, exercise and mental stimulation are important to ensure Alex is happy, content, and tired. Like most Shepherd mixes, Alexander is a smart dog and loves to learn new commands and tricks. He has already picked up "Sit" and name recall.
If you and your family are currently looking for a friendly, out-going, and charming dog to adopt, Alex is going to be a perfect match for you, however he is a herding dog so he will not do well in a home with young children. If you would like to meet Alexander, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet.http://therescueddog.org/2015/dog-adoption-application/
