ABBEY's story
Abbey is a highly trained dog looking for a family to join! Abbey is approximately 3 years-old. She has a loving family but unfortunately their home presents many challenges for Abbey so the family has decided to enlist us to help find Abbey a new loving family where her potentials can be maximized.
Abbey is a very smart dog and needs to be mentally stimulated and challenged. She knows all her basic commands and loves to hike and explore, and she comes when called. Like most dogs, she does like to chase deer, skunks, and racoons. .
One of her favorite games is to search for a scent. Let her smell something, then hide it, and she will go find it. She would be great for someone interested in learning to scent train. She is also athletic and would do well in agility training.
Abbey does great with other dogs. She lived with another dog and she plays with and is well socialized with other dogs that she meets.
Abbey is a sensitive girl and she has worked hard to overcome past trauma, but still has low-confidence moments. She does best with people who are confident and will help her learn to be brave when she is nervous or stressed. She is crate and kennel trained and has no escaping behaviors. She would do best in a home with a privacy fence or quiet back yard because her last homes yard was open to the public and she was teased and over-stimulated with people passing by and it made her develop territorial behaviors, at that home.
Abbey is not a fan of young kids because she had some kids tease her which caused her a lot of anxiety and reactivity. She's not recommended to go where she will be around a lot of kids. With proper introductions and supervision, she has been able to make friends with kids though.
Abbey has been in training at Innovative Dog Training & Education in Kelseyville, CA and has thrived in an environment that provides her a little structure and also mental and physical stimulation. She has worked hard to overcome her fears, anxiety, and reactivity and she has made friends with two dog savvy kids in the house ages 9 and 12.
Abbey hasn't shown prey drive towards chickens or other animals. She might be a good farm dog. She has lives with an older outside cat with no issues so with proper introduction and training she could probably live with cats.
Her friends at Innovative Dog Training & Education are donating some free training to her new owners to help her acclimate as she transitions into her new home and you get to know her. Abbey also has a few fear issues such as she gets anxious on car rides and around vacuums but she's been making steady improvements in overcoming those fears. Training will need continue when she gets adopted.
Abbey's future looks bright and she is a lot of fun. She will thrive in the right home.
She knows the following commands
Sit

leave it
