Ellsworth is hard to describe. He is his own, absolutely adorable being. Found as a stray, he was at first overwhelmed in our urban shelter, developed a cough, but after some special Family Dog TLC, foster care, and a visit to the vet, he is completely recovered.
His foster mom is surprised how much personality has emerged under his cute mop-head. Although he is usually quiet and likes some napping, when he wants to go walkies, he will just bark(and even his bark is cute) until you take him. Then he likes to happily mosey along, not at all bothered by other dogs or people, never pulling on the leash, truly seeming to enjoy a simple outing on a nice day.
When he wants to come up on the bed, he does his cute bark again. But he's never agitated, nervy, wiggly--he's just Ellsworth. Although he is not emotive, he barks when you leave the room, and sometimes for no reason rolls around in a goofy kind of way. He likes food so he's easy to train. However, his ease, way of sticking by you, overall quiet sociability indicates he was once cared for.
Declared totally in the pink by a vet in a recent exam, neutered, up to date on shots, and having had a bath--which he took well--Ellsworth is set for a forever home. Foster mom and vet predict he should get one soon as he's so amiable and yet so much himself!
Small, 10 pounds, 10 ounces, he can work out fine in an apartment. He will need a gentle touch and if you have another dog, best he/she be relatively gentle too--same goes for children.
To foster, adopt, or meet up with our dogs, please fill out an application at the Northern California "Family Dog Rescue" website:
There you will get more information about a particular dog and learn about our San Francisco-based, non-profit rescue. If you fill out an adoption or foster questionnaire online, we will get back to you quickly. For general questions you still have AFTER visiting our site, please email us at the contact address you will find on our site. The volunteer who posts here does not handle adoptions, fosters, or questions involving that process. Thank you for your patience!
There are no fees to foster and we will provide you with support as needed, including food if requested, vet care, and we will be glad to respond to concerns on an ongoing basis. Fostering is really key to our ability to rescue dogs!
The fee to adopt is on a sliding scale and generally includes spay/neuter, micro-chip and up to date shots.
