  My story

Please go to our website at  to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application.  Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website. We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run. We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have. Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt.General Notes | Bless this girl's heart. Pearl is a sweet and funny ex breeder pup (no doubt her puppies were beautiful). She is the perfect age if you want a dog that gets into a routine easily and is low maintenance. She will bond with you! She loves squirrel watching/chasing, going for walks, getting treats, and head rubs, and hanging out outside. She gets so excited when she knows it is time for a walk. She has a playful personality when she is allowed to express herself. She huffs a little with new people in the house, but quickly becomes okay and lays down. She is great with my older calm lab - not good with alpha or envious other dogs. Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.  Health Notes | HW+ but getting treatment which MHLRM will cover financially. She is not a jumper, so she could not jump into a truck or the back of a car. Other Dogs | Great with other dogs! Not aggressive. Plenty of walks encountering other dogs and there is no issue! Cats | Indoor cats maybe okay. Outdoor cats are like squirrels to Pearl. Children | Good with babies. Not toddler tested. Assumed good with older children based on teenage interactions. Pearl does not understand "rough" play and I do not allow her to tug on her toys. She may get overstimulted when she gets excited and does not know what to do with her excitement.  Training | Currently working on basic commands. Not food agressive. Not distructive, no countersurfing, house trained. She is working on "Pearl, come" (sign language), "treat (sign language)", "food", "outside", "leash on", "leash off", "drop", "toy", and a little bit of "stay". She will paw you or nibble you if she wants something. She sleeps through the night on her own bed. She gets up when you get up. She is a very easy dog and loves consistency. She escaped the back gate when I was taking the trash out and I used by "Pearl  come" command and sign language and she came bouncing back! :) Yay! MHLRM will pay for additional training sessions - please verify with them what that entails. Truely, she just needs consistency and encouragement. Leash | She now LOVES to go for walks. Once we get to the gate or a door, she knows "leash on" and is ready to go! She has learned that we walk in the morning and goes into the room where her leash is or runs to the door like "we're going, right?"  Once we are done, I ask her to "leash off." Activity Level | Low to medium - she can sleep! She sleeps while I work almost all day, then she sleeps from about 7:00 PM to 5:30 AM. Personality | Calm, cautious, independent, and sweet. She may choose to be around you and she may choose to sit outside and meditate by herself. Has some separation anxiety - but is getting better. We have left her for several hours with mixed success. She does not need to be in a crate. She may bark at newcomers and house arrivals, but her tail is waging at the same time. It's more like huffing - like....I don't know you! But, she learns to warm up if people just let her do it on her own time. She loves to fetch even though we are working on the return and drop part. She loves loves loves water!! She is okay in the car (a little hard to get her in, but then she is fine). Pearl will not do well in an environment if there is an aggressive or alpha dog. She will be very loyal to her owner by herself or with another dog. Story | Pearl was 1 of 5 dogs being used for breeding purposes, for many many years. Mile High was contacted when the owner passed away and we were so happy to step up for these 6 pups as they are all so sweet! She has not been a pet, but is learning that humans are warm, friendly, and give treats and hugs. She now comes to me for attention - and has even made it to my face for a kiss. She is still hesitant to get in my face in the morning, but that is perfectly okay. She will tell you what she needs and what she does not in any given moment. Be patient with her, give her love, give her space, give her rules, give her training (work), and she will be your bonded and loyal partner. You can read more about Pearl on our Instagram: /p/CdVv4qbr-fH/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_linkThank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $475. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $500 per dog).Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle. July 12, 2022, 4:02 pm
