Section 1:This mid-century factory made violin with no label inside features a very tight grain spruce top, maple ribs, neck and back. The fingerboard, pegs, nut and saddle are all ebony. The purfling (Deco black lines at perimeter of top and back) is inlaid (not painted like some inexpensive instruments). The new Wittner Composite Tailpiece features (4) fine tuners. The ebony tuning pegs are all freshly fitted into holes bushed with beech wood. The maple bridge has been artistically carved and all clearances are according to spec. The strings are new Cleopatra brand synthetic core. Also included is a new K. Holtz carbon fiber violin bow, hard-shell case and new Rosin Cake.I played this violin exclusively for four weeks and now off and on for the past month. It stays in tune, sounds good and the lovely orange color warms the patina that suggests many years of steady playing. Section 2:There is a repair to the top (along bass bar just outside the bass side of bridge foot). This repair was done prior to me getting it. It appears to be a good repair, although you can see it.When I got this violin, when I tuned the “D” string, I found the hole was ruptured. Therefore first, with a fine and careful blade, I completed the break (see pic). I wound up with a scroll removed and the break which went through the D and A string holes. I could then effect a proper repair consisting of three structural elements:·I glued and clamped the two parts together with 2-part epoxy adhesive.- I mortised a slot (like for a door hinge) that allowed me to glue gussets (made of extra thin plywood) to the outsides of the peg-box to strengthen the joints.·I enlarged the peg holes and glued in beech wood bushings into which I drilled and fit pegs such that all the holes are lined with beech (a very hard and smooth wood)The result is an astonishingly strong repair. The instrument is easy to tune and stays there. There is no sign that the repair is under stress.Due to the concern you may have regarding this repair, I will honor 30-days for returns on this item (buyer pays freight back to Cincinnati).
