Great bike! Got it in Europe early in the 2000s and it's still working excellent! I don't mtb, so it doesn't get much use. It has 7 rear and 3 front gears which move fairly well. It's ridable at the moment, however it probably needs your basic tune-ups prior to any serious cycling.
