The LS-17 Sports Utility Runabout is a multi-functional outboard powerboat that can be used for fishing, birding, recreational waterskiing or tubing, gunkholing, picnicking or just day cruising. The LS-17 is partially decked with a laminated coaming which results in a dry ride under almost all conditions. That makes the LS-17 an ideal boat for both lakes and protected coastal waters. The LS-17 combines classic runabout styling and utility boat function above the waterline with a hard-chine semi-vee planing boat bottom. The topsides are glued lapstrake 9mm Okume Marine plywood and the bottom is cold-molded 9mm Okume plywood and 3mm Alaskan Cedar veneer with 6oz fiberglass/epoxy sheathing. This epoxy WEST glued construction provides an attractive, stiff wooden boat that minimizes routine maintenance and adds durability to our favorite renewable material; miracle fiber W, WOOD! This method of construction minimizes the natural movement of wood making for an entirely dimensionally stable product that is equally at home on the water or on a trailer going to your next destination. The large open cockpit and use of modern outboards allow for easy conversation amongst the passengers and a quiet, stable, and comfortable ride. Transom tow eyes allow for pulling a recreational skier or a couple of tubes. There is dedicated space for a cooler, picnic basket, paddle, water skis and fishing gear. The top of the helm seat has been designed to double as a temporary seat for those times when additional height of helm is needed to improve visibility. The LS-17 has dedicated storage areas for life jackets, fenders, dock lines, anchor, rode and USCG Safety package. All these items come standard with the boat. The center-slated cockpit sole is removable giving easy access to the bilge for cleaning or for additional storage space. All systems on board the LS-17 are designed and installed in compliance with America Boating & Yachting Council standards. The LS-17 provides a unique opportunity to own both a stylish, practical, fun boat while giving back at the same time. Buyers who purchase their boat before the close of the school year have an opportunity to visit the school and watch the construction process of their hand-built boat by the next generation of boat builders. This dedicated group of boat building students spend their days carefully crafting these boats under the watchful eye of their experienced instructor. In fact, many of our Landing School boat owners consider their boat a part of the family and treat their it as they would an heirloom, sharing it with family and passing it down to future generations. Note: The boat can be painted in a custom color if the purchase is made before May 1.
