Derived from the rugged Jeep CJ-7 and infused with the versatility of a pickup truck, the CJ-8 represents a long-wheelbase variant that seamlessly combines the legendary go-anywhere capabilities of the CJ series with the practicality of a cargo bed. Manufactured by American Motors from 1981 to 1986, the CJ-8 earned its place in a niche market, attracting those who valued four-wheel drive, open-air motoring, and a substantial 1500-pound payload. The CJ-8 running gear was unmodified from the CJ-7 with the traditional transfer case and manual locking front hubs to engage the four-wheel-drive system. Car and Driver called the new CJ-8 “a long-awaited dose of refinement to pavement Jeeping.” With fewer than 30,000 total CJ-8s produced in it's 5 year run, this vehicle remains as a cult collectable, and rare gem in automotive history. This 1981 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler is an excellent example of the platform. Under the hood, a meticulously crafted 383ci stroker engine steals the spotlight, equipped with a range of high-performance components such as MSD Ignition, Holley Sniper EFI, Edelbrock intake manifold, aluminum heads, ARP hardware, hydraulic lifters, pistons, and exhaust. The fiberglass body is adorned with an eye-catching metallic blue finish, accentuated by black fender flares. Exterior accessories include multiple Hella auxiliary lights, tow hooks, lower brush guards, and a winch. The 15” Chrome Ultra wheels are clad in 33” Super Swamper tires, while AP Customs shocks enhance traction and absorb the terrain. The interior is a testament to the extensive craftsmanship invested to achieve a clean and functional finish. Notable features include custom upholstered seats, a handcrafted center console/armrest, a Kenwood CD Player, Kicker speakers and subwoofer, a custom dashboard with AutoMeter Gauges, and a sturdy roll cage. A set of Bestop doors and windows can be included. For the Jeep enthusiast, few offerings were as unique as the CJ-8 Scrambler. This vehicle offers the opportunity to own a rare, turn-key example of the CJ platform ready for the trails ahead. Available for viewing by appointment only. Located in Stratford, CT.
